Our Story
Founded in 1934, Chateau Ste. Michelle pioneered vinifera grape growing in the Columbia Valley and is the oldest winery in Washington State. Known for its highly acclaimed Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, the chateau is located 15 miles northeast of Seattle on 87 wooded acres that were once the summer home of Seattle lumber baron Frederick Stimson. The winery's expansive grounds make an excellent picnic site. Complimentary guided tours and tastings are offered from 10 am to 4:30 pm daily. Reserve, single-vineyard and library wines are available for tasting for a modest fee in the winery's Vintage Reserve Room, by appointment (call 488-4633). During the summer, Chateau Ste. Michelle is home to a performing arts series featuring top international entertainers.
