"Forgeron" is the French word for blacksmith as our Winery in Walla Walla was founded in 2001 on the former site of a blacksmith shop. In French, "Forgeron" refers to artisans who build with their hands combining experience with an extensive knowledge of their trade. As Winemaker & co-owner, this is Marie-Eve Gilla’s vision, crafting complex, food-friendly wines from vineyards chosen for maturity & flavor profile. Marie-Eve's wines have a sense of place, & reflect their terroir, which is a composite of the vine location & the grower dedication.
Forgeron Cellars production is limited (around 5000 cases/year), allowing Marie-Eve to focus on quality by keeping each lot separate & allowing full expression of the wine's potential. Marie-Eve is known for her crisp & clean Burgundian-style White wines as well as her lush, elegant Reds including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah & Zinfandel.
Born & educated in Paris, France, winemaker Marie-Eve Gilla (now a Naturalized U.S. Citizen) came to the Pacific Northwest more than 20 years ago. Just prior to joining with a team of investors to form Forgeron Cellars in 2001, Marie-Eve was at Gordon Brothers where she earned many awards for increasing the quality of wines produced.
Over the years, Marie-Eve has developed working relationships with Washington State’s most prestigious vineyards, including Boushey, Klipsun & Sagemoor. Focusing on grapes from throughout the Walla Walla, Yakima, & Columbia Valleys, allows Marie-Eve to follow each harvest to its maximum potential. It’s Marie-Eve’s attention to detail, from checking on each vineyard during growing & harvest seasons to carefully nurturing & monitoring each fruit as it progresses from tank to barrel to bottles that has gained her national recognition.
Marie-Eve supports & participates in a variety of civic events & charities in Walla Walla & throughout the State, including The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Dream for The Cure Gala, Seattle Children’s Hospital, Planned Parenthood & the Blue Mountain Humane Society. In addition to memberships with the Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance, Walla Walla Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Walla Walla & Woodinville Wine Country, Marie-Eve currently serves as Treasurer of the Washington Wine Technical Group whose goal is to improve the quality of Washington wines through education. In 2013 Marie-Eve was invited to join the prestigious Seattle Chapter of Les Dames d'Escoffier International, an invitational, philanthropic group of women leaders in food, beverage, & hospitality whose missions is supporting women through education, advocacy, & philanthropy.
