“For me, nothing is difficult.”
Meet Baldomera Valenzuela, field worker for DuBrul Vineyard in the Yakima Valley. Baldomera has been working in agriculture for 26 years, the last 6 of which she has been with Kerry Sheils at DuBrul. Born and raised in Nayarit, Mexico, Baldomera currently calls Sunnyside, WA home. When asked what Baldomera finds most challenging about working in the vines, her reply was simple: “For me, nothing is difficult.” This lightness of being radiates in all directions. When asked about she does to pass the time outside of work, or what keeps her motivated during the busiest times of harvest, it was all family: “My five children, 15 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren motivate me,” she told us. When she isn’t out in the vines, Baldomera said she can most often be found knitting blankets for her great- and grandkids. Stay tuned for our in-depth interview with Baldomera, which will be publishing later this month.
